Training
I was trained in Trauma-Informed Narrative Therapy by its developer, Dr. Dan Allender at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. It is a therapeutic approach that integrates the neuroscience of our bodies’ trauma response with in-depth engagement of one’s personal story. Most importantly, I bring my full presence to every session, employing active listening and authentic, compassionate care.
My degree program included in-depth coursework in spiritual formation practices and in Christian theology, and I can offer spiritual direction to those who choose to incorporate it into our work. I also have experience and training working with victims of spiritual abuse in church settings .
I have a decade-long background in successful medical sales management. I also have a masters degree in international affairs and corresponding experience in non profit program management. I am proficient in Spanish.
Experience
I have extensive experience counseling individuals and facilitating support groups for cancer patients and their families. I have worked with clients struggling with relational abuse, grief, chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, sexual addictions, sexual disorders, substance dependence, and eating disorders.
I have worked with couples facing sudden health crises that compound communication issues and disrupt finances, sexual intimacy, and identity.
Expertise
I am an expert guide through the structures and dynamics of relational abuse and recovery. This abuse may be emotional, mental, physical, financial, spiritual, sexual, or a combination of these. It is a highly disorienting form of abuse, and victims often seek help when these relationships end abruptly and they are trying to figure out what happened to them. I help victims identify the insidious relational dynamics and deceptions that characterize certain personality disorders, particularly Narcissistic and Borderline Personality Disorders. Through uncovering their own past relational and familial history, I uncover the ways in which victims were vulnerable to being drawn into and kept in chaotic and unstable emotional bondage. This understanding alone can provide relief and freedom from shame. From there, I guide clients into moving toward wholeness and healthy relationships.
